Winners

We are delighted to announce that we won the Innovation for Safety Award at Subsea UK's prestigious Business Awards. The award was announced at the Subsea UK Expo 2014 Business Awards Dinner on the 5th February and represents a significant milestone for PSL in the acceptance of the LIGHTPATH concept. The Innovation for Safety Award recognises innovation made in a technology that has significantly contributed to improving safety within the subsea sector.

How We Won...

The LIGHTPATH system consists of a 5mm diameter flexible fibre easily retro fitted to an air dive umbilical. The fibre carries no electrical power only light and will for the first time provide the ability to see the line of the umbilical from the bell to the diver thus reducing the likelihood of umbilical snagging, a major industry concern. The individual diver umbilical can be identified by the choice of green or blue illumination, assisting both the bell man and ROV pilot of the route of the umbilical. The system can be run steady state or flash and typically will illuminate 75m of umbilical from a single injection system with a 7W demand.

Our Reaction

Our Director, Don Walker said “the recognition by such a prestigious body as Subsea UK of the LIGHTPATH concept will give huge boost to our small team of engineers at PSL. We are also very appreciative of the collaborative nature of the guidance from the teams at Bibby Offshore, Boskalis Offshore and Helix Well Ops who supported the trials. Feedback and positive reaction from open days at The Underwater Centre was mirrored by the overwhelmingly positive response from the dive community; we believe this will become a must have to improving diver safety that will also contribute to increased productivity”.
